Often presented in conjunction with our live events, this design-your-own exhibition of artworks is drawn from the James Baldwin Project's curated collection: a mix of travel-ready canvases and high-res digital prints on lightweight backing.

Brief descriptions accompany individual images; QR codes link viewers to artist bios and contact info. To augment this presentation, some event hosts solicit Baldwin-inspired artwork from within their own communities — often in collaboration with local schools.

A prestigious peer-reviewed annual journal, the James Baldwin Review was created in 2014 to deepen understanding of world-famous author/activist
James Baldwin (1924-1987).

Over the past decade, Review covers have included public artworks, archival photographs, quilts, tee-shirts, acrylics and oil paintings from artists all over
the world.

A representative artwork below, used as the basis for cover art of the JBReview Volume 7, is by Rico Gatson – he designed and installed an actual tile mosaic on the wall of a NYC Subway stop, at 167th Street.
